本文就資優兒童課程設計的兩大類:充實課程內容和加速學習作一番探討。(1)充實課程一兒童仍按在校的教育過程階段循序而上,而在課程有充實內容的做法,但此種方法往往流於「繁忙的課業」的毛病;(2)加速學習課程提出美國Johns Hopkins大學的數學才俊研究所(SMPY)和智能優異兒童研究小組(IGCSG)所發展的數學教育模式設計,其主要方法有:為資優者提供激發 性且適切性的教育經驗、在其求學過程中提供相當的彈性和加速升學的機會、就其所完成的課業給予教育上的認可,而不論其是否已達一般年齡水準。SMPY並發展講習課程模式,對資優學生做個別化的課程輔助,並建議學校當局為此資優生安排修習更高程度的課程。文後作者認為,加速學習方式比課程充實制,更能做到適切性有彈性的個別化教學。
