Abstract
美國作家露意莎·梅·奧爾柯特(Louisa May Alcott)於1878年出版之《丁香花下》(Under the Lilacs)為其經典兒童文學作品之一。然而,此作品在臺灣之譯介歷程相當有限,尚無完整中譯本。本文旨在翻譯《丁香花下》前九章,並透過譯註揭示其語言風格、文化內涵與社會背景,補足現存譯本於內容與語境上的不足。本研究首先探討原文所展現之文本雙重性,指出此表面上為兒童故事之作品,實則蘊含多層次意涵,除迎合兒童讀者之閱讀趣味外,亦呈現對家庭結構、性別角色與社會現實等議題之批判,展現雙重受眾(dual address)之特性。其次,本文採用Eugene Nida之動態對等理論(dynamic equivalence),分析翻譯策略如何回應兒童讀者之閲讀需求;並結合Reiss& Vermeer之目的論(skopos theory),探討如何保留原文歷史文化意涵與文學風格,以回應成人讀者之閲讀需求。針對原文中之慣用語、修辭與角色對話進行翻譯分析,並透過譯註協助讀者原著之歷史文化理解,期使中譯文於忠實與易讀之間取得平衡。最終成果為一傳達原著精神、語言風格與文化細節之中譯本。
American writer Louisa May Alcott's Under the Lilacs, published in 1878, is one of her classic works of children's literature. However, its translation history in Taiwan is quite limited, and no complete Chinese version faithful to the original text currently exists. This thesis aims to translate the first nine chapters of the book and provide detailed annotations that uncover its linguistic style, cultural meanings, and sociohistorical context, thereby addressing the content and contextual gaps in the existing adapted version.The study first examines the ambivalence nature of the source text, arguing that although it appears to be a simple children's story, it in fact contains layers of meaning. While it appeals to young readers with its narrative charm, it also conveys implicit critiques of gender roles, family structures, and social realities—demonstrating the characteristics of dual address. The thesis applies Eugene Nida's theory of dynamic equivalence to analyze translation strategies that enhance readability and emotional engagement for child readers. It also incorporates skopos theory, developed by Reiss and Vermeer, to explore howhistorical and cultural nuances as well as literary style can be preserved to meet the interpretive needs of adult readers. The study focuses on the translation of idiomatic expressions, literary devices, and character dialogue, and uses annotations to facilitate readers' understanding of the original's historical and cultural dimensions. Ultimately, it seeks to strike a balance between fidelity and readability. The final result is a translated text that conveys the spirit, linguistic style, and cultural depth of Alcott's original work.
