Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the fathering and resource management of Taiwanese fathers in Southeast Asian immigrant families. It focuses on their perceptions of the paternal role, experiences in father involvement, and the process of resource management. Using the Resource Theory of Fathering as the research framework, to present both the actions and internal reflections of fatherhood. Qualitative research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with three Taiwanese fathers affirmed by their children. Expecting to provide a reference for Taiwanese fathers in similar background and to offer recommendations for family education practitioners in Taiwan. Based on the result of thematic analysis, the main research findings are:1. Taiwanese fathers perceive fatherhood as multiple responsibilities, balancing economic support with emotional engagement.2. Father involvement is shaped by their upbringing, paternal identity, work characteristics, parenting education, the limited resources of immigrant wives, and feedback from children.3. Father involvement evolves with their children's development, but the care and love of father remains unchanged. 4. Challenges include difficulties in academic guidance and discipline, inadequacies in verbal expression, relationship distance between father and children, and struggles balancing work and family responsibilities. 5. Taiwanese fathers possess a variety of fathering resources, particularly personal resources. In terms of resource management, their practices align partially with the process of resource management, primarily solving challenges in fatherhood. However, the lack of a comprehensive resource management concept prevents them from fully preparing for the needs of their children.6. In line with the Resource Theory of Fathering, effective use of resources plays a key role in shaping fatherhood. Taiwanese fathers actively channel resources, yielding positive impacts on both their children and their own abilities.
