zh_TW
This study examines the needs and treatment options for substance abuse in domestic violence shelters in New Taipei City. It aims to better understand the nature and scope of alcohol, drug, and other substance use issues among women seeking refuge, and to explore effective and feasible treatment approaches based on professionals’ insights. The goal is to assess the acceptability and applicability of these options within Taiwan’s social context and provide a reference for future research and practice. Results show substance abuse is common in these shelters, with most professionals recognizing a strong link between substance abuse and domestic violence. However, existing addiction treatment and support services face challenges such as limited resources, low resident participation, staff shortages, and funding constraints. Most respondents support integrating substanceabuse treatment into shelter services, seeing it as beneficial for improving family relationships and resident health, though concerns remain about increased operational pressure and resource allocation. Differences in perceptions across professional fields were also noted. The study recommends enhancing resources and policy support for addiction treatment in shelters and promoting interdisciplinary cooperation among social services, healthcare, and public health sectors. It suggests combining medication-assisted treatment with psychosocial interventions to build a more effective prevention network. Future research should further assess the feasibility and impact of these treatments in shelters, considering resource limits and resident safety.en_US
