Abstract
Participation in student clubs is a significant aspect of university life. It not only helps students build deep friendships and create lasting memories but also allows them to acquire various extracurricular professional skills and knowledge. For clubs to develop healthily, a standard evaluation mechanism is essential to assess and improve their operations. This study aims to explore students' perspectives and experiences with the current club evaluation system, with the goal of understanding their views and constructing an evaluation method centered on student perspectives. The objectives of the research are threefold: (1) to understand the current state of club evaluations, (2) to examine the views of club leaders on the evaluation system, and (3) to propose revisions and practical recommendations for the club evaluation system based on the research findings. The research methodology involves semi-structured individual interviews, inviting 16 club leaders who participated in the national club evaluations in 2023 or 2024 to share their genuine opinions from a student perspective. The research findings are summarized in terms of the purposes, indicators, evaluation methods, motivations for participation, application of results, learning outcomes, and the challenges and difficulties of the club evaluation system. The key conclusions are as follows:Purposes and functions of the club evaluation: These include reviewing operations, consolidating information, fostering observation and exchange, encouraging healthy competition, and ensuring continuity and inheritance.Indicators for club evaluation: The current indicators are seen as reasonable and sustainable, but the weighting should be adjusted, categories should be independent, uniqueness should be highlighted, and team cohesion should be demonstrated. Opinions on the current scoring items such as commonality, club activity performance, and on-site questioning are also discussed.Evaluation methods for club evaluation: A diverse approach is recommended, including documentation, on-site questioning, dynamic and video presentations, on-site inspections by judges, site arrangement, data digitization, and the establishment of progress awards and qualification systems.Motivations for participation in club evaluation: These include securing club resources, accumulating relevant experience, reviewing club operations, and striving for recognition and honor.Application of evaluation results: These encompass enhancing self-affirmation beneficial for future employment, helping schools understand club operations and provide guidance and rewards, increasing publicity and recruitment opportunities, and offering subsidies to growing clubs to avoid negative cycles.Learning outcomes from the club evaluation: These include strengthening professional skills and understanding club contexts, improving public speaking and communication opportunities, and increasing team cohesion and creating fond memories.Challenges and difficulties in club evaluation: These include gaps in club legacy leading to incomplete information, vague evaluation criteria, challenges in work and time management, cumbersome documentation, and low engagement of club leaders.
