Abstract
The purpose of this research is to explore the influences of the co-parenting perceived by children on their self-concept and makes comparison between the new immigrant families and the native families. In this study, 693 quantitative data was collected from elementary upper students in New Taipei City and Taipei City. Among them,318 are from natural born students, 120 from new immigrant children with their mother from Mainland China and 105 are from those whose mothers are from Southeast Asia. The research instrument used is including "Self-Concept Scale" by the author and "the Parenting Alliance Inventory" (PAI). Data from the questionnaires are analyzed by independent-samples , T test , one-way analysis of variance , and canonical correlation analysis , multiple regression analysis, leading to what follows: 1. Analysis of the co-parenting perceived by children (1) Participants reported that they felt both parents support the coparenting system, less reported to recognize the “counter coparenting”. (2) The results showed that coparenting, were significantly related to country, grade , mother’s education . 2.Analysis of self-concept (1) Children have high self-concept. (2) The mental self-concept of Minland Cina pupils was higher than native and Southeast; The school self-concept of native pupils was higher than Minland Cina and Southeast. (3) The results showed that school self-concept, were significantly related to gender;physical self-concept, were significantly related to mother’s education;family self-concept, were significantly related to father’s education. 3.Correlation among children’s perception of co-parenting and children’s self-concept. (1) The higher children perceive parents support the coparenting, the higher is their self-concept. (2) The higher children perceive parents counter coparenting , the lower are family self-concept, school self-concept,whole self-concept . 4.Conutry and father’s education can explain physical self-concept;father’s education can explain mental self-concept.
