dc.description.abstractQue and dao are often treated as two synonymous words that convey contrastiveness, but few ever touch upon their discourse and pragmatic functions. The proposal argues that the speakers opt to use que and dao each to reach a different communicative purpose, based upon the Principle of Economy in language use.en_US
