伯恩斯坦《西城故事交響舞曲》之指揮研究

Abstract

美國作曲家雷奧納多・伯恩斯坦（Leonard Bernstein, 1918-1990）的作品中，以在 1957 年為音樂劇《西城故事》（West Side Story, 1957）所創作的音樂，最為知名。1960 年伯恩斯坦再以劇中舞曲為主題重新創作的《西城故事交響舞曲》（Symphonic Dances From “West Side Story”），於 1961 年首演。《西城故事交響舞曲》分為九個段落，風格多元，包含當時美國的爵士樂、拉丁樂到現代音樂等內容，此作品將長達二小時十五分鐘的音樂劇濃縮為在短短廿一分鐘，因此非常受到愛樂者的喜愛，是伯恩斯坦管弦樂作品中，演出次數最多的作品。本論文將探究《西城故事交響舞曲》的創作背景、作曲家生平，並與音樂劇版本做分析比對，並探究差異與音樂風格變化，以期在演出此作品時能符合作曲家的意念與期待，並提出個人的指揮詮釋見解，以作為日後國人指揮本作品時的參考。American composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) is best known for his 1957 music for the musical West Side Story (1957). In 1960, Bernstein re-created Symphonic Dances from"West Side Story" based on the theme of the dance music in the play, which premiered in 1961. Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story" is divided into nine sections, with diverse styles, including American jazz, Latin music, and modern music. Therefore, it is very popular among musicians, and it is the most frequently performed work among Bernstein's orchestral works. This thesis will explore the creative background and life of the composer of Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story", analyze andcompare it with the musical version, and explore the differences and changes in music style, in order to meet the composer's ideas and expectations when performing this work , and provide opinions as information for these who wish to perform this work in the future.
