Abstract
This study focuses on the design of outdoor explanatory panels and explores their importance for environmental education, interpretive services, guiding, and the relationship between management agencies and visitors. It posits that high-quality design of explanatory panels is key to providing excellent services at tourist attractions and can address the limitations posed by weather and human resources in outdoor settings, thereby promoting autonomous learning among visitors. This research will delve into aspects such as style, color, text content, layout, and font of explanatory panels, evaluating the effect of these design elements on enhancing visitor experience and satisfaction, and determining whether they truly meet public needs and receive positive feedback. The study emphasizes the design of outdoor explanatory panels and their significance for the visitor experience. It notes that many explanatory panel designs lack consistency in aspects such as font type, proportions, and spacing, affecting visitor experience. The research objectives include exploring how the quality of explanatory panels influences visitors' hedonic and cognitive experiences; analyzing how these experiences jointly impact visitor satisfaction; and understanding visitor preferences for different design elements. Through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) bootstrapping analysis, this study thoroughly investigates the impact of explanatory panel design features (overall balance, color coordination, font) on users' cognitive experience, hedonic experience, and satisfaction. The findings reveal that theoverall balance of explanatory panels significantly enhances cognitive experience; color coordination has a direct positive effect on hedonic experience; and font choice significantly benefits both experiences, indirectly affecting satisfaction. Moreover, the direct positive impacts of hedonic and cognitive experiences on satisfaction were also confirmed. These findings highlight the importance of considering visual design elements when designing explanatory panels to enhance user experience and satisfaction, indicating that careful design can not only convey information but also enhance the overall experience, thereby increasing positive perceptions and satisfaction with the brand or exhibition. In summary, the study underscores that the overall balance, color coordination, and font type of explanatory panels are key design elements for improving visitor experience and satisfaction. These elements affect not only the aesthetic perception of visitors but also their understanding of information. Therefore, the design of outdoor explanatory panels should consider the needs and preferences of different visitor groups, focusing on providing rich, diverse, and interactive experiences. These findings have practical implications for designers of outdoor explanatory panels and tourism operators, helping to enhance the overall appeal of tourist destinations and visitor satisfaction.
